Purpose (Nia) – the 5th principle of Kwanzaa is an easy one to understand but not always easy to figure out for yourself.
No worries. This is the perfect time of year to pause and regroup.
🤔 Are you stumbling along doing what you’ve been doing
because that’s what you’ve always done?
🤔 Do you want to look around at age 30 or 50 or 70 or 90
and realize there are whole years or decades with no
special memories or achievements? No?
Then it’s time to make a change.
Whether it’s changing your career or simply adding something to your life on a regular basis that gives it more meaning, this is the time to put a little pep in your step and some bounce in your brain.
👉🏾 YOUR TURN
Take a moment to think about answers to the following questions.
🤔 What is one thing you do well?
🤔 What makes you really happy?
🤔 What skill can you use to help other people?
🤔 Is there something you’ve never gotten up the nerve to do?
🤔 If your financial stability and comfort were guaranteed
what would you do with your life?
Review your answers. Do you see any patterns?
List some ways you can weave into your life more of the actions and aspirations that give you a sense of joy, of pride and communal well-being?
Make it work for you. Some people need to start slow and inch change into their lives. Some people are more effective when they kick off with a blast of energy and re-write their lives in major ways. However you do it, if you find yourself looking back to a month or even a week where there’s been no infusion of joy it’s time to get back on track!
So, what is your PURPOSE?
In general? I can answer that. A more supportive, more informed and effective you, in better harmony with the worlds inside and outside of you.
In specific? That’s up to you. Check in with yourself regularly and stay on the path. Your purpose will introduce itself to you (if it hasn’t already) with a feeling of energized contentment that tells you you’re in the right place doing the right thing.
Peace & Productivity!
